Bridging the (Short) Gap: God's Love for Sinners - Pt. 3

wretched little sinners

Part 3 of the 'Wretched Little Sinners' Blog Series
(Go to Part 1)

Have you ever felt a conviction to change because somebody screamed at you?

Yeah, me neither.

Blazing the streets with megaphones and picket signs has won very few people over, if ever. It seems to only widen the gap between the self-righteous and those they look down upon. I’ve had to reconcile my own bad behavior and self-righteousness when I see others who don’t look, act, or think like I do. It’s embarrassing to admit that I’m still shedding that skin, and I catch myself judging someone or something that should render more compassion than fuel my egocentric thoughtlessness. It’s gross.

There is an obvious gap in society that exists between the church and the LBGTQ+ community, and the melee is typically around the topic of sin. When we all get in the same boat and agree that we are all sinners, as dirty and vile as our neighbor, it wouldn’t allow us to single out one group of people as more vile than the next. We are them, and they are us.

Yet and still, God loves every last one of us equally.

We are all God’s diaper blowouts, and even when we offend him with our smelly, icky, sin-filled lives, he looks at us and proclaims, “I love you, you wretched little sinner.” He cleans us up, knowing we will offend Him again, yet He shows up every time to clean up our dirty work. Let’s remember, as we link arms with those who look, act and think differently than we do, that God and God alone, waits for us to get our crap together (pun intended) and love one another well.
