Kim is the real deal. She walks this road, while loving her son and honoring God, with minimal guidance from the church. She teaches us how to listen well to receive the truth of our kids’ experiences, to hold space for them without losing our faith. Kids are dying. We need to respond. Kim is inviting us to pivot with her.
When your child came out, your faith-filled story changed. Suddenly you were thrown into a new chapter you didn’t see coming, and weren’t prepared for. This new twist seems to challenge your faith, wreck your well-crafted vision, and might even make you question God.
Believe me, my husband and I had all the thoughts, and tears, and struggles - with our son, and with God.
Hi, I’m Kim
And I can relate to everything you’re feeling.
Nearly ten years ago, our son revealed his deeply held secret that he was gay. It was not an easy day for any of us, and his revelation was anything but tidy. More significantly, he was terrified to disclose his sexuality to us for fear of abandonment. How does an LGBTQ+ child tell their Christian parents he is gay? I understand his fear and trepidation.
As a parent with an abiding faith in Jesus and a deep commitment to my child, we were suddenly catapulted into an unknown territory of parenting. I won’t lie…it rocked my faith and caused my feet to wobble when someone from my church told me I would be forced to choose my Savior or my child, because I couldn’t have both. Yep, that was terrifying. And wrong. Nonetheless, I felt alone, afraid, and ill-equipped to navigate the uncharted waters.
Through much counseling and years of navigating, we’re traveling this road with our faith and our family intact. Our focus is on building bridges and restoring relationships, not on rehabilitative therapy. We don’t need to do God’s job; we simply need to love like He does.
My goal is to help you navigate with grace, avoid the pitfalls, strengthen your faith, and love your child like crazy.
We can simultaneously preserve the integrity of the words on the pages of Scripture and love the people for whom they were written (spoiler alert; it’s all of us, and there are a lotta things to navigate). I’m thrilled you’re joining me on this journey, and I’m hopeful you will maintain joy as you hold onto your faith while you hold onto your child.
All that said,
We’ve been up,
we’ve been down;
we’ve had good times,
and terrible ones.
We’ve weathered tumultuous storms, and sailed calm seas. We’ve been on the brink of broken relationships, and worked hard to salvage them. We’ve shaken our fists at God, asking why He’s picking on us with such intensity. We’ve felt weak and unseen. We’ve begged Him to change our story.
You, too?
I understand. I get the confusion and loneliness. I’m right there with you when you sense a lack of support or direction. Even your church might not be equipped to walk beside you, because the delicate balancing of grace and truth is an artform that sometimes gets too messy for churches to deal with. Perhaps you’ve felt that too.

Kim has been one one of the best examples of unconditional love in my life! As our children grew up together, and we were figuring out life and who are children are, she modeled this, not only for her children, but for us as parents as well. She said something many years ago that has stuck with me to this day. During some times of transition that were hard, she said “I want to always be a soft place for my kids to land when they are struggling through things.” Those words have stuck with me as I navigate all the different seasons of my kids’ lives…and she still provides that ‘soft place’ for her kids and for those God puts in her path.
As a Christian parent who has wrestled every scenario to the ground having an LGBTQ+ child, I'll help you disentangle your jumbled thoughts so that you can begin to walk this journey with grace.
Do your thoughts keep you up at night?
→ What has my child experienced, and what do I need to know?
→ Who can I blame?
→ How do I navigate my own feelings?
→ How do I protect my child at school, within the community and at church?
→ Can I love and support my child without feeling like I'm compromising my beliefs?
→ What about my child’s faith?
→ Should we tell extended family or friends, and how do we handle those conversations?
→ What does the future look like?
Loving your child doesn't mean you agree with 100% of the things they do or believe, but it does mean you can choose to do it well. You can choose to understand. You can choose to love.
You can choose Jesus AND your child.

My immediate response when I think about Kim, is that she is a woman with the gift of joy. This gift might have come easy if she knew a life of little pain, but Kim is well acquainted with life’s sufferings. She has endured with a more profound, more abiding joy from walking through darkness near her Savior. “God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits, to the woman who diligently seeks. It’s a good thing to quietly hope, quietly hope for help from God” (The Message, Lamentations 3)
I have been privileged to call Kim my friend for close to thirty years. As young families raising our children together, I was often encouraged by Kim, who knew the importance of community in the Christian life. She and her husband led our small group with humility and joy that drew people together in authentic, deepening relationships.
Kim’s heart reflects Paul’s words in 2 Cor. 5:18-19, “Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” Reconciliation comes at a cost, a laying down of our swords so we can hear from the heart of others and “honor everyone” (1 Peter 2:17). Even when disagreements seem profound, she affirms we can still nod with an understanding of the person sitting across the table from us.
